Box Score Lynchburg, VA (01/27/01) -- Guilford forced a season-high 35 turnovers, which led to 35 points and an 84-52 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball win at Lynchburg Saturday. The Quakers' (12-4, 10-2 ODAC) ninth win in 10 games marked their 12th straight triumph over the Hornets (9-7, 5-7 ODAC) and gives them a 20-1 edge in the season series.
Lynchburg junior forward Beth Carter (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) scored the game's first four points, but Guilford rallied for a 17-16 lead with 11:12 left in the half. The Quakers used a 14-5 run and held a 41-28 halftime advantage. Guilford forced 19 first-half turnovers.
The visitors padded their advantage in the first seven minutes of the second stanza with a 12-4 surge to post a 21-point lead. The Hornets drew no closer than 15 points the rest of the game.
Carter scored a team-high 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Lynchburg. The Hornets shot just nine of 21 (43%) from the free-throw line.
Senior guard Erin Beacham (Atlanta, GA/Lovett) scored a game-high 16 points for Guilford, sinking 10 of her 11 free throws. Freshman forward Jackie Hardenbergh (Oak Hill, VA/Paul VI) made all five shots from the floor and scored 11 of her career-high 15 points in the second half. She also led the team with career highs in rebounds (7) and assists (5). Senior forward Arden Miller (Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) added 10 points. The Quakers made a season-high 28 free throws.
Guilford returns home from a 3-1 road trip this Wednesday night (1/31) for an ODAC tilt against Washington and Lee at 7:00 P.M. Lynchburg hosts ODAC foe Randolph-Macon next Saturday (2/3) at 4:00 P.M.
