Box Score

Greensboro, NC (01/17/01) -- Guilford held visiting Hollins without a field goal for the final 4:58 and escaped with a 59-51 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball win Wednesday night. The Quakers (9-3, 7-1 ODAC), ranked eighth in this week's NCAA Division III South Region poll, improved to 22-0 all time against Hollins (4-6, 1-5 ODAC) with their sixth straight win.

Hollins rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit and tied the game for the seventh and final time at 47-47 with 4:58 remaining on a Lauren McKee (Roanoke, VA/Roanoke Valley Christian) basket. Guilford senior Arden Miller (Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) scored a layup on the Quakers' next trip down the floor and rookie Kate Goodman (Salisbury, NC/West Rowan) added two free throws to give the hosts a 51-47 edge with 4:16 left. Junior forward Mandy Nichols (Troutville, VA/Lord Botetourt) answered for Hollins with three free throws and drew her team to within 51-50 with 1:55 remaining.

Guilford junior guard Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) scored her first points on the next possession with a jumper in the lane and fed a streaking Dara Burke (Richmond, VA/St. Catherine's School) for an easy score off a Hollins' missed free throw. Burke's fast-break layup and two foul shots with 53 seconds left gave Guilford a 57-51 lead and put the game out of reach. Hollins, which never led in the second half, missed three field goals and four free throws in the game's final five minutes.

Hollins' Nichols scored nine of her game-high 16 points in the second half and grabbed eight of her game-best 11 boards in the final period. McKee finished with nine points and a game-best four assists for Hollins. Senior guard Rosse' Hopkins (Roanoke, VA/Northside), the reigning ODAC Player of the Week, made just two of 11 shots from the floor and finished with five points, 13 below her season average.

Guilford senior guard Erin Beacham (Atlanta, GA/Lovett) tallied with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, all team highs. Rookie guard A.J. Robertson (Eden, NC/Morehead) scored nine points off the bench.
