FOREST, Va. – The Guilford College track & field team opened competition at the ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Eastern Mennonite University, on Friday afternoon. The Quakers turned in several strong performances on the first day of action at the EMU Track & Field Complex.
Jeremy Harway (Apex, N.C.) provided a major highlight in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a personal-best time of 11:13.16.
In the men's 200-meter preliminaries,
Jaden Jones (Rocky Mount, N.C.) delivered a stellar performance to close out the day on the track. Jones finished sixth overall with a time of 22.30 seconds, successfully qualifying for Saturday's finals.
Guilford's speed was on full display in the men's 100-meter preliminaries as well.
KJ Allen (Boonsville, N.C.) led the way with a time of 11.19 seconds, while
Cedric Blowe (Indian Trail, N.C.) followed closely, crossing the line in 11.22 seconds.
The men's 400-meter preliminary round saw a heavy Quaker presence.
Tkwon Davis (Warren County, N.C.) finished 13th with a time of 50.57 seconds. He was followed by Jones in 16th (51.40) and
Yassine Aallam (Holly Springs, N.C.) in 17th (52.02).
Trenten Torain (Durham, N.C.) rounded out the group in 21st with a time of 52.83.
In the field events, Blowe added a 13th-place finish in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.47 meters. On the women's side,
Bess Parnell (Cairo, Egypt) placed 18th in the long jump with a leap of 4.68 meters.
The Quakers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 25th, for the final day of competition at the ODAC Championships.
