HICKORY, N.C. - The Guilford College track and field team took part in the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University in the three-day event Friday through Sunday against a mixture of Division II and III schools.
Akeem Kaiuway (Greensboro, N.C.) finished with a PR of 9.82m in the shot put while
Kayden Gaddist (Summerville, S.C.) followed with a 8.89m and teammate
Khmalai McPhaul (Fayetteville, N.C.) walked away with a 6.04m.
Cedric Blowe (Indian Trail, N.C.),
Seth Almand (Barre, Vt.),
Marcus Tate (Atlanta, Ga.), and
Ahmaad Abdul-Haqq (Greensboro, N.C.) all took part in the men's long jump this weekend as well. Abdul-Haqq was the top finisher for the Quakers as he leaped 6.17m, matching his PR, Tate with a 5.56m, Almand with 5.50m, and Blowe with 5.49m. Gaddist was also a contender for the javelin with a mark of 38.11m while Mcphaul threw a 14.50m in the discus alongside Kaiuway with 25.72m.
In the 400m relay,
Jadyn Swinson (LaGrange, N.C.),
Yassine Allam (Holly Springs, N.C.),
Jerome Moore (Mount Olive, N.C.), and Blowe ran a 44.49.
Trenten Torain (Durham, N.C.) shaved off time and finished with a PR of 51.38 in the 400m dash along with
Jaden Jones (Rocky Mount, N.C.) finished with a 52.85. Allam walked away with a 53.06 and
Kendel Lowe (Winston-Salem, N.C.) finished at 54.15 while
Enzo Geremski (Winston-Salem, N.C.) ended with a 56.54.
Jeremy Harway (Apex, N.C.) ran the 800m run with a time of 2:23.12, a PR while
JC Yañez (Thomasville, N.C.) clocked in at 2:24.79. Harway was a Quaker in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1.08.76 as well. It was a busy day for Guilford in the 200m dash as five Quakers got seed time. Allam was the first Quaker to break the tape with a PR of 23.96, Lowe was next up with 24.06, another PR, as Abdul-Haqq finished with 24.30 with Swinson right on his tail at 24.34. Moore had a time of 25.63. The Quaker's took their 4x400m relay team, consisting of Allam, Lowe, Jones, and Geremski, and finished with a time of 3:38.59.
Bess Parnell (Cairo, Egypt) competed in the long jump with a measurement of 4.47m while
Jasmine Cartwright (Kalispell, Mt.) threw in the women's javelin with PR mark of 28.34m, placing sixth overall. Parnell also participated in the 400m hurdles clocking in at 1:21.23
Piper Campbell (Wilmington, N.C.) ran the 800m with a time of 2:53.44 and Aixa
Arajuo-Cortinas (Asheville, N.C.) behind her with 3:30.54.
