GREENSBORO, N.C. - Ranked No. 14 nationally in Division III by the National Collegiate Golf Rankings, the Guilford College men's golf team secured a tie for third place with a team total of +31 at the O'Briant Jensen Memorial tournament held at The Cardinal golf course on Monday and Tuesday.
Evan Mendyk (Summerfield, N.C.) was at the forefront of the Quakers with a total score 143 (+1), a personal best at the O'Briant Jensen Memorial in comparison to his previous 166. Mendyk tied for fourth place overall and shined in the par 3s, averaging 2.75 with a score of -2. He also tied for third when looking at the par 5s, averaging 4.50 with a score of -3. The graduate student's eagle on round two was impressive as well as being tied for sixth in total birdies.
The second Quaker-finisher was
James Alden (East Northport, N.Y.) who tied for 16th overall with a score of 150 (+8), which was one point better than the previous go-around at the O'Briant Jensen Memorial. He had a score of -1 in par 5s, averaging 4.83 and ranking 18th. Alden was also ranked 12th in par 4s for the tournament, averaging 4.23 with a score of +5.
Also tied for 16th place was
Oliver Paddon (Hingham, Mass.) with a score of 150 (+8). At the end of day one, Paddon was setting the pace for Guilford as he and Mendyk were tied at 70 (-1). He also tied for fifth in par 3s with an average of 3.13 and score of +1.
Following Paddon was
Andrew Perry (Fuquay Varina, N.C.) who ended with 157 (+15). Next for the GC scorers at 16-over and tied-52nd was
Parker Cumbea (Fuquay Varina, N.C.) who wrapped up the Gate City Invitational with 158 swings.
Thomas McNally (Charlotte, N.C.),
Braeden Gillen (Holly Springs, N.C.),
Luke Wise (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.),
Larsen Gallimore (Walnut Cove, N.C.), and
Keelan Robertson (Walnut Cove, N.C.) all participated in the secondary squad. McNally was one of the many gentlemen who tied for 66th place and walked away with a score of 161. Gillen finished with 169 (+27) and tied for 96th while Wise left the tournament with 171 (+29). Gallimore ended with 174 (+32) alongside teammate Robertson at 180 (+38).
The O'Briant Jensen Memorial tournament was the last of the fall portion of the men's schedule as they will take time to work on their craft and get ready for their first spring tournament on March 3rd (Mon) and 4th (Tues) to compete in the Savannah Harbor Invitational, hosted by Berry College.
