Women's Soccer Falls in Hard-fought Battle to Open ODAC Slate

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Guilford College women's soccer team fell in a hard-fought battle with the University of Lynchburg to open its ODAC schedule. 

 

THE BASICS

  • Score: Lynchburg 2, Guilford 0

  • Records: Lynchburg 4-1-0 (1-0-0 ODAC), Guilford 6-2-0 (0-1-0 ODAC) 

  • Location: Appenzeller Field at the Armfield Athletic Center- Greensboro, N.C.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The visitors proved to be offensively strong from the get-go, forcing the Quakers to spend a majority of its time in their defensive zone.

  • Guilford was able to keep Lymchburg at bay for a majority of the first half, but faltered with 15:50 remaining. It was Amanda Wigboldy who scored for the Hornets, capitalizing on a free-kick. 

  • Lynchburg's second goal came in the 61st minute off a long shot that took an ugly bounce and flew into the back of the goal. 

  • Katie Kaznowski owned Guilford's lone shot on-goal, one in which she sent on target from over 10 yards out.

 

QUAKERS' TOP PERFORMERS:

  • Sophomore Ady Franken was stout in goal, making 10 saves in 90 minutes played.

  • While Kaznowski owned the lone on-goal attempt, classmate McKaley Boston also had a shot.

 

NEXT GAME:

Guilford is set to travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday.
