Guilford Doubles Up Carolina University For Win

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Guilford College women's soccer team returned to its winning ways with a win over Carolina University of the NCCAA on Saturday afternoon.

 

THE BASICS

  • Score:Guilford 4, Carolina University 2

  • Records: Guilford College (5-1-0), Salem College (1-5-0)

  • Location: Appenzeller Field - Greensboro, N.C.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Guilford College's first goal came off the toe of McKayley Boston, just nearing the halfway point of the first half. This was Boston's first goal of the season.

  • The visitors tied it up at 24:20, as Cameron Dubuc was able to beat the Quaker keeper.

  • Boston's second goal of the game and season came at 56:08 as she was awarded a penalty-kick after being taken down on the attack. 

  • Owning GC's third goal of the game, Crystal Rivas found the back of the goal just 1:20 after Boston's PK.

  • The Quakers' last goal came off the boot of Gracie Mayer in the 73rd minute.

  • The Bruins were able to make the scoresheet one last time before the contest came to an end, as Natasha Mariam recorded her team-leading fourth goal of the season at 74:29.

  • Guilford outshot Carolina University 29-15 and had 11 more corners than the visitors (12-1).

 

QUAKERS TOP PERFORMERS

  • McKayley Boston had herself a day, recording her first and second goals of the season. The captain of the Quakers now has six points on the season.

  • Crystal Rivas continues to lead her squad in scoring, as she has recorded six goals this season. Her mark of six goals is good enough to tie her for second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in that category. She also ties for second in points with 13.

  • Gracie Mayer now has two points on the season, as her goal was the first for her.

  • Earning her first-career victory in her first-career start, Khaliah Jones turned away seven Bruins' shots in her 90 minutes played.

 

NEXT GAME

Guilford remains at home as it will play host to Johnson & Wales (N.C.) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
