Women's Soccer Drops its First Contest of the Season at Methodist

Box Score

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Guilford College women's soccer team faltered for the first time in the 2021 season, losing out to Methodist University on the road, 3-1.

Guilford opened the season 4-0, but moved to 4-1 after Wednesday's loss.

GC trailed 2-0 at halftime, as the hosts scored two goals within under 20 minutes of each other.

It was Crystal Rivas who owned the Quakers' lone goal. She scored just two minutes into the second half.

Rivas now has five goals on the season, good enough to rank third in the ODAC in that category.

Despite the loss, Ady Franken stood tall, turning away 15 of the Monarchs' shots.

The host's goalie also put on a show, stopping 18 of the Quakers' attempts.

A colorful contest, Wednesday's game saw six cards dealt out.

Guilford College returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as it hosts Carolina University.
