Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Guilford College men's soccer team played a fantastic game against the Averett Cougars at the Armfield Athletic Center Wednesday evening, claiming a 2-0 win.
Guilford is now 4-0 on the season.
The contest was intense from the very beginning, as both the Cougars and Kenny Nzekwe were able to toss a shots on-goal in the opening minutes.
It was Nzekwe who put the Quakers up, recording a goal nearly 14 minutes into the contest. His goal was the result of a Riley Copeland shot into a wall of people in front of the goal. The Owerri, Nigeria native was able to gather the ball in a chaotic net front and beat the keeper.
Before the time ran out in the first half, bright lights off in the distance - presumably lighting - flashed off in the distance. As if it was a choreographed show, an Averett shot rang off the post as a strike occurred.
Copeland added his name to the goal scorer's column with 27:20 remaining in the contest as he was able to find the back of the goal on a long free-kick.
Roman Robinson recorded a season-best 12 saves.
Guilford returns to action as it travels to Greensboro College for a Friday night match.
