Guilford created several early opportunities, with Urgiles and Hercules testing Washington and Lee goalkeeper Furman in the opening 16 minutes. Furman turned aside the attempts to keep the Quakers off the scoreboard. The Generals broke through in the 27th minute when Rowan Sellers found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Washington and Lee added to its lead just before the break, as Matt Stitz scored in the 45th minute off an assist from Trian Kechagias, sending the Generals into halftime ahead 2-0.
The Quakers continued to push offensively after the break, matching Washington and Lee with five shots in the second half and earning all four of their corner kicks after halftime. However, the Generals extended their lead in the 66th minute when Jenkins converted a penalty kick to make it 3-0. Guilford continued searching for a breakthrough, putting additional shots on target, but Furman and Eastright combined for three second-half saves to preserve the shutout. Despite finishing with a 10-9 advantage in total shots and a 6-7 deficit in shots on goal, Guilford could not find the net as Washington and Lee secured the 3-0 victory.
Guilford will return to action Wednesday, October 28, hosting Roanoke College at 4:00 PM at Armfield Athletic Center to close out the regular season.
