Nzekwe Penalty Kick Sends Quakers to ODAC Championship Game

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford and Roanoke battled to a double overtime 1-1 deadlock, forcing the match to be decided by a shootout, which went the way of the Quakers when Kenny Nzekwe delivered the fourth shootout goal of the game to send Guilford to the ODAC Championship against Lynchburg on Sunday, April 11th in Lynchburg.

Roanoke (3-2-3, 2-1-3 ODAC) grabbed the 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when Dylan Berk drove home a pass from Nathan Carey. The game then went into a weather delay that lasted just over three hours before the two teams returned to the pitch.

Guilford knotted the game at 1-1 at the 70:47 mark when Lazlo van Straelen converted a pass from Joenn Lanza.

After two scoreless overtime sessions the game was set to be determined by a shootout. Roanoke missed the first two attempts, however Logan Haustein and Jordan Coe were successful for Guilford, which led to a 2-0 lead.

Berk converted the third attempt, as did Guilford's Logan Eure. Till Pfleging drove home the second Roanoke goal in the shootout, but Nzekwe answered the deliver the Guilford victory.

Guilford finished the match with six shots while Roanoke tallied 21 in the contest.

Zach Van Kampen made nine saves for the Quakers while his counterpart, Zach Behe, came through with three.
