GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Guilford College men's soccer team was shutout on its home turf by Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• The visiting Virginia University Marlins were able to get out to a 2-0 lead by the 36th minute of the contest. A lead that they held going into the second half.

• VWU extended its lead to three on a 30-yard long ball in the 61st minute.

• In goal for Guilford, Roman Robinson put up a valiant effort, making xx stops on xx shots faced.

• Guilford's best shot at a goal game with just over 17 minutes remaining on the clock, as Jasper Ardinger was one-on-one with the keeper, who stepped up and kicked the ball away.

• Va. Wesleyan extended its lead to four off a free-kick at 15:07, following a Bruno Gonzales yellow card.

• Sophomore Logan Eure was given a penalty shot at 77:28, but the Marlins' keeper was able to get his hands on it and deflect it away from the goal.

QUAKERS' TOP PERFORMERS

• Rodrigo Gudiño and Cortez Herring led the Quakers' offensive push with two shots on-goal apiece. 

• In goal, Roman Robinson turned away three Marlins' shots.

Guilford will hit the road on Wednesday as it travels to Lynchburg for a 7 p.m. meeting.
