Super Hat-Trick by Green Helps GC to Wallop Hollins

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Guilford College women's soccer took down Hollins University in dominating fashion Tuesday night, 9-0. 

 

THE BASICS

  • Score: Guilford 9, Hollins 0

  • Records: Guilford 8-3 0 (2-2-0 ODAC), Hollins 0-3-0 (0-6-0 ODAC)

  • Location: Appenzeller Field at the Armfield Athletic Center - Greensboro N.C. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Guilford started off strong in the first half with a Madison Green tally, helped along by Gracie Mayer at 13:40.

  • The Quakers' second goal of the game came 12 minutes later on a Crystal Rivas' penalty shot. Rivas was gifted the one-on-one opportunity after a shot of hers rang off the post and was caught by a Hollins' defender. 

  • Green was able to post two more goals before time ran out on the opening half, the latter the result of a clean up job on a Rivas' post shot at 40:59. Guilford owned a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

  • Just 1:30 into the second half the Quakers extended their lead to five off an unassisted Kayla Gumula goal. Her first of the season.

  • Green posted her fourth and final goal of the night 34 seconds later to push the score to 6-0. 

  • Adding her name to the stat sheet, Gracie Mayer posted a goal of her own, assisted on by Gumula to make it 7-0.

  • Gumula put up her second tally of the night at 56:44 on a header.

  • The Quakers' final goal of the night was owned by Morgan Nixon, who was assisted by Mayer.

 

QUAKERS' TOP PERFORMERS

  • Leading her squad in scoring, Madison Green posted eight points of four assists. She now ranks second on the team in goals with five, after posting her first-career goal at Shenandoah over the weekend 

  • Also posting multiple goals on the day was Kayla Gumula with her pair that she combined with an assist to finish with five points.

  • Gracie Mayer was close behind with her four points on a goal and two assists, trailed by Crystal Rivas who had three points on one goal and one assists. 

  • Morgan Nixon was the last Quaker to record points with her two on the final tally of the game.

  • GC traded out Ady Franken in goal for Khalia Jones to kick off the second stanza. Each played for 45 minutes.

 

NEXT GAME

Guilford is set to travel to Randolph-Macon Saturday for a 1 p.m. ODAC meeting.
