Hayes Extends Season-Long Hit Streak in Losses Against Virginia Wesleyan

GREENSBORO, N.C.---Guilford College's Cynthia Hayes extended her season-long hit streak as Virginia Wesleyan College earned a twinbill sweep over the Quakers Saturday afternoon.  The Marlins won the first game, 8-0, in five innings and the nightcap, 6-1.

Hayes and Allie Nicholson led the Quaker bats in game one, going two-for-three a piece.

The bottom third of the Virginia Wesleyan order powered the Marlins' offense, driving in six of the eight Marlin runs.  Season Dailey, Kayla Dost, and Andrea Shannon all drove in two runs a piece.

Casey Snead (2-1) took the loss for the Quakers, striking out two batters in two and two thirds innings.  Maggie Shaffer relieved Snead in the third and struck out five batters in two and a third innings.

The Quakers' took an early 1-0 lead in the nightcap's first inning when Hayes connected on a home run to right field.  Her lone hit of the nightcap extended her hit season-long streak to 14 games.

The Marlins Tori Higginbotham countered in the top of the third with a two-run homer to center field, giving the Marlins the lead.  Higginbotham led the Marlins with two RBI.  Dailey and Lindsey Inzana added another RBI a piece.

Morgan Myers (2-1) took the loss for the Quakers only surrendering one hit in four and a third innings.  Calli Pastor relieved Myers for the final two and two thirds innings.

Mackenzie Creech (6-2) took the win for the Marlins with a complete game effort, surrendering one earned run on six hits and striking out six.

The Quakers (9-5, 0-4 ODAC) round out their weekend tomorrow, hosting Randolph-Macon College at 1:30 p.m.
