Box Score LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Ian Meredith scored his first two goals of the season in Covenant College's 2-1 soccer win over visiting Guilford College Saturday.
Meredith's tallies sent the Scots (1-2-2) to their first victory of the season and the Quakers (2-3-1) to their second straight setback. He scored in the 20th minute off an assist from Tyler Morrison and opened the second-half scoring with an 18-yard blast in the 47th minute set up by goalie John Eger.
Guilford scored by virtue of an own goal in the 79th minute while playing with a man advantage after Covenant's Chris Pifer was sent off in the 64th minute. The Quakers had a couple more shots on goal in the final 10 minutes, but Eger stopped them en route to eight saves in goal.
The Quakers outshot the Scots, 13-11, and owned a 9-0 edge in corner kicks. The Quakers' Michael MacVane made four saves in his first start of the season in goal.
Guilford plays the third of four straight road games Sunday (9/18) at Emory University.
