Guilford Uses Long Ball to Sweep Randolph

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sarah Cutright hit a three-run homer in the opener and Julie Langseth hit a three-run blast in the nightcap to power visiting Guilford College to a softball sweep of Randolph College Saturday. The Quakers took the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader, 4-1 and 10-5.

In game one, Cutright's blast capped a four-run third inning that provided all the offense the Quakers (20-12, 6-8 ODAC) needed. Junior Jessica Burcham (11-4) fanned eight and allowed just two hits in her team-leading 11th win of the season. One of her hits was Brittany Willingham's solo homer in the third inning that accounted for the Wildcats' (16-16, 6-10 ODAC) lone run.

Kimberly Keys and Autumn Yoder both had two hits in game one for Guilford.

Randolph took a 1-0 first-inning lead against Guilford's Ashley Boteler (6-3) in game two, but the Quakers went ahead on Yoder's two-run single in the second. Langseth's blast, her second of the season, came in the third inning and opened a 5-1 Guilford advantage.

Keys cleared the bases with a three-run, two-out double in the sixth that created a 9-1 lead. Boteler came within an out of ending the game after six innings due to the eight-run rule, but Kristen Hutchinson forced a seventh inning with a two-out, solo homer. The Wildcats tacked on three more runs in the seventh before Jessica Rowland came on to record the final two outs.

Langseth was three-for-four in the game for Guilford. Teammate Morgan Andrews added two hits.  Samantha Thacker led Randolph with two hits.

Guilford hosts Sweet Briar College Sunday (4/10) at 2:00 pm on the Quakers' Senior Day at Haworth Field. The contest also marks Guilford's Score for the Cure games, which raises funds and awareness for the fight against cancer.
