GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Playing for the first time in over a week, Guilford College's softball team showed no signs of rust in a convincing doubleheader sweep of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Emory & Henry College Saturday. The Quakers claimed the opener, 9-1 in six innings, and won game two, 13-1, in five innings.

The wins helped Guilford coach Dennis Shores reach the 100-win plateau for his career. Now in his fifth season with the Quakers, Shores has a school-record 101-87-2 career ledger.

The Quakers (17-11, 3-7 ODAC) put three runs on the board in their first inning with heads-up base running by Cynthia Hayes (2-4) and Courtney Kozar (2-2, 3 runs) and a two-out RBI single by Sarah Cutright (2-4, 2 RBI). Guilford sent eight batters to the plate in the opening inning and never looked back.

The Quakers added another run in the second inning and followed with three more in the fifth to make it 7-1. Guilford ended the game in the sixth inning on an RBI triple by Ami Hutcherson followed by Cutright's second RBI single of the game.

Five different Quakers had two hits in their 13-hit attack and eight of Guilford's nine batters had hits. The offense supported Jessica Burcham's (9-4) team-leading ninth win of the season. The junior gave up just one run, despite yielding a season-high five walks in six innings.

Martha Fluharty had two of the Wasps' four hits and Jamie Price plated Emory & Henry's run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

The Quakers picked up where they left off in game two, finishing the Wasps (6-14, 1-7 ODAC) off in four-and-a-half innings, 13-1. Pitcher Ashley Boteler (5-2) helped her cause on the mound by ripping two doubles and adding an RBI. She scattered three hits and gave up one unearned run for the win.

Guilford took advantage of three Emory and Henry miscues in the first, but scored just once and left the bases loaded. The Wasps answered in the second with their lone run off a single by Shannon Kelly.

The Quakers opened up the game in the second with three runs, two off a bases-loaded single by Morgan Andrews. Guilford's first six batters reached base in the third inning and the Quakers ended up with six runs in the frame.

Guilford again banged out 13 hits, including two apiece by Kozar, Boteler and Autumn Yoder. Kozar, Andrews and Yoder each finished with two RBI.

The Quakers entertain league-rival Lynchburg College Sunday (4/3) at 2:00 p.m. at Haworth Field.
