Guilford Drops 1-0 ODAC Contest With Bridgewater

Box Score

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Ryan Tavernaris scored in the 13th minute and Travis Morris made four saves as visiting Bridgewater College dealt Guilford College a 1-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) setback Saturday night.

Tavernaris scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season when he banged home a ball off the end line. Sawyer Janes started the sequence with a crossed to the near post that went off Guilford goalie Peter Truitt's hands. Tavernaris pounced on the loose ball and gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The Quakers (6-8-2, 3-6 ODAC) maintained steady pressure for most of the game and outshot the Eagles, 20-10. They had an excellent chance at an equalizer in the late in the first half when Freddy Gomez' header bounced off the crossbar and his follow shot off the rebound sailed high. Morris had one save in the half to maintain the Eagles' 1-0 advantage.

Bridgewater came out strong in the second half as the Eagles' Cody Weaver put a couple good shots on goal, which Truitt stopped. Guilford regained the upper hand and spent most of the final 40 minutes in Bridgewater's end, but the Eagles' defense stood tall.

Truitt finished with five saves in goal for Guilford.

Guilford closes out the regular season Tuesday night against visiting Randolph College at 7:00 p.m. in an ODAC match.
