GREENSBORO, N.C.(9/3/10) - Julian Allgeier scored a goal and two assists in the second half to lift visiting Covenant College past Guilford College, 3-0, Friday evening. The contest marked the opener of the Guilford College Classic Presented by Time Warner Cable.

After a scoreless first half, Allgeier put the Scots (1-1) on the board in the 56th minute off a free kick from 40 yards out that passed through the hands of Guilford goalie Peter Truitt.

The Quakers' Richard Page nearly netted the equalizer three minutes later with a long-range blast that sailed just over the crossbar.

Covenant's Tyler Morrison converted an Allgeier cross from eight yards out for a nicely timed second Scots goal in the 68th minute. Five minutes later Brian Stair finished a similar pass from Allgeier from close range for a 3-0 Covenant lead.

John Eger (High Point, N.C.) made two saves for the shutout before a local crowd. Truitt finished with four stops in 68 minutes.

The four-team tournament continues Saturday (9/4) when Covenant meets Averett University at 12 noon. Guilford entertains Chowan University at 2:00 p.m.
