Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C. (4/3/10) -- Kaitlyn Culler's two-out RBI single lifted visiting Ferrum College to a 12-11 victory and a sweep of a nonconference softball doubleheader at Guilford College Saturday.
The Panthers (20-10) won the opener, 10-2 in five innings, which snapped the Quakers' (21-6-1) seven-game winning streak. Megan Barger and Shelbie Hall both had three hits, two runs and an RBI for Ferrum, which scored in all five innings. Culler improved to 9-2 with the five-inning victory in the circle.
In game two, Guilford scored five runs in the second and third innings to open an 11-6 lead, but Ferrum rallied with a pair of two-out rallies. After Jessica Burcham (8-3) retired the first two batters in the sixth inning, Ferrum tied the scored at 11 by scoring three runs off of five straight singles. Burcham had a 1-2 count with two outs on Rachel Shumaker in the seventh, but Shumaker the inning alive with her fifth single of the game. Culler followed with her game-winner, which scored the Panthers' fifth unearned run of the game. The teams combined for 11 errors in the second game.
Culler was 3-5 with two runs scored and three RBI. Whitney Womack had two hits and also plated three for the Panthers. Hall (2-1) picked up the win with 4.2 scoreless innings of relief.
Guilford's Charissa Duncan was 3-4 with five RBI in the nightcap. Courtney Kozar, Morgan Andrews and Brandi Ingram all had two hits for the Quakers.
Guilford returns to action Thursday (4/8) against visiting Meredith College in a twinbill rescheduled from Mar. 3
