SWEET BRIAR, Va. (4/10/10) --
Guilford College held Sweet Briar College to two hits over 11 innings to sweep Saturday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball doubleheader.
Tabitha Poole (4-1) twirled a two-hit, six-inning shutout in the Quakers' 8-0 opening game win. Emily Willis (4-1) and Jessica Burcham combined to no-hit the Vixens (5-22, 0-10 ODAC) over five innings in a 16-0 nightcap victory.
Julie Langseth powered the offense in both contests, bashing three hits in both. She was 3-4 with two doubles and four RBI in the opener and went 3-4 with two homers and three RBI in the nightcap. Langseth's two-run, two-out single in the opener's first inning plated two unearned runs. She added an RBI double in the sixth inning and scored what proved to be the game-ending run on Morgan Andrews' RBI single in the sixth inning.
Guilford (24-7-1, 9-1 ODAC) scored nine first-inning runs in the second game thanks to a two-run homer by Langseth followed one batter later by Sarah Cutright's two-run blast. Charissa Duncan, who had four RBI in the nightcap, added a two-out, two-run double in the inning. Cutright finished with three hits in the game, as did teammate Autumn Yoder, who also scored a career-high four runs.
The Quakers return to action Sunday at league-rival Randolph-Macon College.
