Box Score 2 CHESAPEAKE, Va. (3/7/10) -- Guilford College split a nonconference softball doubleheader with Shenandoah University Sunday at Great Bridge High School.
The Quakers (8-3-1) won the opener, 6-2, behind freshman Tabitha Poole's first college pitching win. The rookie scattered nine hits and yielded one earned run in a complete-game effort. Guilford's Morgan Andrews' two-run double staked the Quakers to a 2-0 first-inning lead, which grew to 5-0 after a three-run third frame. Courtney Kozar had three hits for Guilford.
In game two, Denise Mitchell's two-out, two-run double capped a three-run second inning that provided all the offense pitcher Amanda Litwin needed. The rookie improved to 2-1 in a complete-game nine-hitter that included one strikeout and one walk. Catherine Pruiett and Shatora Lane both had two hits for the Hornets (3-3). Poole had two hits for the Quakers.
Guilford hosts Swarthmore College Monday (3/8) at 1:00 p.m. on Haworth Field.
