Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (3/20/10) -- Lauren Duncan's two-out, three-run pinch-double in the sixth inning gave Guilford a 4-3 win and a sweep of Saturday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader at 23rd-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College. The setbacks marked Virginia Wesleyan's (13-2, 4-2 ODAC) first of the season.
The Quakers (17-4-1, 5-1 ODAC) broke a 2-2 tie in the opener with six unearned runs in the top of the seventh and then hung on as the Marlins scored four times in the bottom of the inning.
Guilford's Jessica Burcham picked up her first win in nearly a month in the opener. She fanned a season-high 10 batters to improve to 5-1. Brandi Ingram's two-run double highlighted Guilford's six-run eighth inning. Courtney Kozar also had two RBI. She and Charissa Duncan led the Quakers with two hits apiece.
Morgan Stephens led Virginia Wesleyan with two hits, including a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh. Brittaney Brown (9-2) suffered her first loss, despite not allowing an earned run in seven innings. The Marlins committed four errors in the game, two in the decisive seventh inning.
Duncan's hit propelled the Quakers to their ninth win in 10 games. Kimberly Keys and Julie Langseth both delivered their second hits of the game with one out in the seventh and Charissa Duncan worked a two-out walk to load the bases for Lauren Duncan. The rookie hit her second career double to the left-center field gap, which scored all three runners.
Shelby Bowser won her fifth straight decision and improved to 8-1 on the year.
Brown (9-2) took the loss in relief. Stephens went 1-3 and plated all three Marlins' runs. Jackie Jarzynka had a team-high two hits.
Guilford visits Mary Baldwin College Wednesday (3/24) at 3:00 p.m. for a nonconference doubleheader.
