Duncan Homers Twice in Softball Split With Roanoke

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. (3/17/10) -- Kimberly Keys went 3-4 with three RBIs and Charissa Duncan hit her second homer of the day in Guilford College's 8-4 softball win over Roanoke College Wednesday. The victory salvaged a split of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) twinbill after the Maroons took a 14-6 opening-game win in six innings.

Roanoke (15-2, 1-1 ODAC) jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opener thanks two-run doubles by Jessica Zenan and Sara Caudle. The Quakers (15-4-1, 3-1 ODAC) answered with six in the bottom of the first on Keys' three-run homer and a two-run blast by Duncan. Roanoke replaced starter Kelsey Ruitenberg with Abigail Rexrode and Rexrode shut held Guilford to just one hit over the next 5.2 innings.

Lisa Scruggs went 4-4 with six RBI and two runs scored. Reigning ODAC Hitter of the Week Leona Rainey was 3-3 with four runs scored and three stolen bases.

Guilford grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first inning of game two and Quakers' starter Shelby Bowser kept the Maroons in check for her team-leading sixth win of the year. Bowser, the reigning ODAC Pitcher of the Week, worked around 11 Roanoke hits, fanned four and did not walk a batter. Duncan hit a two-run homer in the Guilford first and Keys had a three-run double in the four-run fourth frame that opened an 8-1 Guilford lead.

Scruggs had three more hits in the nightcap. Meghan Wiengard delivered a two-run, pinch-hit homer in the seventh.

Guilford is back in action Saturday (3/20) at league-leading Virginia Wesleyan College at 2:00 p.m.
