Records Fall in Softball Sweep at Averett

DANVILLE, Va. (2/28/10) -- Guilford College swept Averett University, 13-5 and 19-6, in two five-inning softball games Sunday. The wins extend Guilford's best start in school history to 7-0-1.

Julie Langseth highlighted a strong offensive performance with seven hits in nine at bats, including a homer, two triples and a doubles. She drove in 10 runners and hit for the cycle in the second game. Autumn Yoder had five hits and scored five runs on the day and teammate Kimberly Keys added five hits and five RBIs.

The Cougars took a 5-2 lead after two innings against Guilford ace Jessica Burcham in the opener, but the Quakers' offense came alive for six runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth inning. Emily Willis threw 3.1 innings of scoreless, two-hit ball for her first win of the season.

Averett had a 4-1 lead after the first inning of game two, but the Quakers struck for seven runs in the second inning and never looked back. Shelby Bowser improved to 2-0 with the win in relief.

Guilford hosts Meredith College Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
