Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C. (2/20/10) -- Guilford College swept a nonconference softball doubleheader from visiting Methodist University for the first time in school history Saturday. The wins ended the Monarchs' (0-2) nine-game winning streak in the all-time series, which they now lead, 13-3.
The Quakers' Charissa Duncan delivered a game-winning double in the bottom of the eighth inning of Guilford's 5-4 opening-game win. Guilford carried a 4-0 lead into the top of the seventh inning before Methodist's Darci Martin belted a two-out grand slam to tie the game and force extra innings. Sophomore Jessica Burcham fanned 10 and did not allow an earned run in the opener to record the win.
Duncan and teammate Courtney Kozar both had three hits and three RBIs in the Quakers' 10-4 comeback win in the nightcap. Burcham (3-0) won the second game with four scoreless innings of relief and finished the day with 14 strikeouts in 12 innings.
Guilford (3-0-1) hosts Peace College Sunday (2/21) in a nonconference doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. at Haworth Field.
