Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C. (4/23/09) - Guilford College wrapped up a record-setting regular season and tuned up for this weekend's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament with a sweep of visiting league-rival Sweet Briar College Thursday. The Quakers (25-11, 13-5 ODAC) won the opener, 13-3, and scored a season-high 22 runs in the 22-4 game-two victory. Both contests ended in five innings.
Samantha Golley and Amber Stapler both had three hits in the opener. Ami Hutcherson went 2-4 with her school-record fourth triple and a career-high four runs scored. Charissa Duncan, Kelly Guarnieri and Morgan Freyer all had two hits for the Quakers. Emily Willis improved to 4-2 on the season with five strikeouts in five innings. Taryn Pulvermuller finished the game with three strikeouts in two perfect innings of relief.
Sweet Briar (4-29, 1-17 ODAC) took a 4-0 lead in the nightcap, thanks to Roshel MacGorman's three-run home run in the first inning. The Quakers answered with three unearned runs in the first and took the lead for good with eight runs in the bottom of the second inning. Courtney Kozar went four-for-five with three hits and three RBI from the leadoff position. Guarnieri had two hits, including an inside-the-park homer, and four RBI. Morgan Andrews and Willis both added two hits for the Quakers. Kelly Hale added to her school career RBI record when she knocked in the 100th run of her career with a fourth-inning double.
Freshman pitcher Jessica Burcham (11-5) set the school record for wins in a season with five strikeouts in 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.
The Quakers open ODAC Tournament play Friday (4/24) having already set school records for wins and league wins in a season. With today's wins, Guilford secured the eight-team field's third seed and opens against sixth-seeded Randolph College at 3:00 p.m. The Moyer Sports Complex hosts the three-day tournament in Salem, Va.
