Box Score 2 HARRISONBURG, Va. (3/21/09) - Freshmen Jessica Burcham and Shelby Bowser pitched complete games in both ends of Guilford College's sweep of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) twinbill at Eastern Mennonite University Saturday. The Quakers (11-7, 3-1 ODAC) have won nine of their last 10 games.
Burcham (4-3) fanned nine and allowed four hits in the opener for her team-leading fourth win of the season. Kelly Hale delivered a two-run homer in the Quakers' and Kimberly Keys added an RBI double later in the frame for a 3-0 Guilford lead. Keys added an RBI single in the three-run fifth inning that gave the Quakers a 6-0 edge. Jenny Blosser's two-run homer in the seventh provided the game's final margin for the Royals. She had two of Eastern Mennonite's hits and all three RBI.
Bowser (1-1) yielded a first-inning run in the nightcap, but settled down to retire 15 of the next 17 batters. She allowed four hits and struck out a career-high six. Rookie Jordan Sanford made her first college start at shortstop and responded with a career-high three hits. She missed hitting for the cycle by a home run and delivered an RBI triple in the fifth inning. Ami Hutcherson also had three hits and an RBI.
The Quakers visit league-rival Bridgewater College Sunday (3/22) for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
