Box Score 2 FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (2/21/09) - Methodist University took advantage of eight Guilford College errors in two games to sweep a nonconference double-header Saturday, 9-6 and 6-0. The Monarchs (2-2) are ranked 19th in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Division III Poll.
Guilford (1-3) rallied from a 6-2 deficit with four runs in the top of the sixth inning thanks to three run-scoring doubles, including a two-out, two-run hit by Shelby Bowser that tied the score at 6-6. Kayla Talbert's infield single scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. Sara Poling had an RBI double and Alex Bass added an RBI single later in the inning, which included two of the Quakers' four errors.
Bass finished the game with two hits and three RBI, both game highs. Lesley Hewitt fanned two and did not walk a batter in the complete-game win.
Charissa Duncan and Julie Langseth both had two hits for the Quakers. Bowser (0-1) took the loss in relief of Samantha Golley. Both pitchers helped themselves at the plate with two RBI.
The Quakers' fielding struggles continued in the nightcap, when the Monarchs scored six runs on just three hits. Guilford had nine hits, including three by Duncan, but stranded 11 runners. All but one Methodist run was unearned. Talbert (1-3) and Poling had the team's lone RBI. Emily Beck (1-1) evened her record with a complete-game effort with no walks or strikeouts.
Jessica Burcham (0-1) fanned six in five innings for Guilford.
The Quakers visit Peace College Sunday (2/22) in a nonconference twinbill.
