(10/28/09) -- Allison Azbell's goal with 23 seconds left in the first overtime period gave visiting Emory & Henry College a 2-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) soccer win at Guilford College Wednesday night. The victory marked the Wasps' (10-8, 4-7 ODAC) first in 13 meetings with Guilford (7-11-1, 4-6-1 ODAC).
After a scoreless first half, the Quakers took a 1-0 edge in the 51st minute on Marina Schachowskoj's goal from close range off a Elise Rothweiler assist.
The Wasps forced extra time on Kellie Flaherty's tally with 6:04 left in regulation. Emory & Henry goalie Hayley Poland stopped a Lauren Matthews shot with 33 seconds remaining in regulation to keep the scored tied at 1-1.
Azbell managed the only two shots of the overtime period and won it when she beat three defenders moments before the end of the first 10-minute overtime period.
Poland made seven saves for Emory & Henry, which was outshot, 14-9. Guilford netminder Kat Adams had two saves.
With 13 points in ODAC play, Guilford earned the seventh seed for the ODAC Tournament. The Quakers take on second-seeded Washington and Lee University Saturday (10/31) at Washington and Lee. The teams played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie last Saturday in Greensboro.
