Box Score Greensboro, N.C. (10/20/09) -- Roanoke's Kayvon Sarmadi scored the game's only goal in the 62nd minute to lift Roanoke past Guilford, 1-0, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer match Tuesday evening. Guilford falls to 7-10-1 with the loss.
The Maroons, currently ranked sixth in this week's adidas/NSCAA Division III South Atlantic Poll, improve to 11-3-3 with the victory.
The Maroons goal was scored after a save by the Quakers' Jonathan Shine was deflected right to the waiting foot of Sarmadi. Roanoke appeared to score another goal 15 minutes later only to have it called due to an offsides infraction.
Ryan Russell earned the win in the goal for Roanoke making three saves, while Guilford's Shine had a strong showing the the goal turning away eight shots in the loss.
Guilford takes to the road for its final two ODAC games of the season against Virginia Wesleyan (10/24) and Emory & Henry (10/28). Both games begin at 7:00 p.m. The Quakers need either a win or two ties to be in contention for the final spot in the upcoming ODAC men's soccer tournament.
