Box Score HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. (10/17/09) -- Hampden-Sydney College scored three times in the first 33 minutes and John Robert Plyler made six saves as the Tigers posted their 11th straight men's soccer win with a 3-0 home victory over Guilford College Saturday. The Tigers (13-2) improved to 6-1 in the ODAC and sent the Quakers (7-9-1, 2-5 ODAC) to their sixth straight loss.
Chris Whiteside scored off a Brett Chonko assist in the sixth minute to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead. Curran Blackwell's tally less than 15 minutes later doubled the Tigers' edge before Bryan Wharton closed out the scoring in the 33rd minute with an unassisted goal.
Jonathan Shine made eight saves in goal for Guilford, which was outshot, 22-12.
The Quakers return to action Tuesday (10/20) against visiting league-rival Roanoke College at 7:00 p.m. in the Armfield Athletic Center.
