Guilford Splits With Randolph-Macon

Ashland, Va. (4/9/08) - Guilford College and Randolph-Macon College split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Randolph-Macon.  The Quakers won the opener, 5-2, but dropped the nightcap, 4-2.

In the opener, freshman Samantha Golley (8-3) pitched Guilford to its fourth straight win. She fanned six and retired the final seven batters she faced.  Golley helped herself at the plate with an RBI single in the Quakers' three-run third inning.  Kelly Hale added an RBI single in the frame and Charissa Duncan had a sacrifice fly in the inning.  Kelly Guarnieri had an RBI single in the fifth for Guilford. Brooke Snyder knocked in both Randolph-Macon runs with an RBI single in the first and had an RBI groundout in the third.

In game two, Randolph-Macon's Shannon Long hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Paige Smith hit a two-run single in the second to help the Yellow Jackets gain the split.  Golley smacked hit her first college homer with a solo shot in the second and added an RBI double in the fifth. She finished with a game-high two hits.    

Becky Clark earned her first save of the season by working out of jams in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.  The Quakers left the bases loaded in the fifth and stranded two runners in the sixth and seventh innings. Morgan Greene's two hits paced the Yellow Jackets.

Guilford visits nationally ranked Lynchburg College Sunday (4/13) for a 1:30 ODAC doubleheader.
