Softball Splits ODAC Doubleheader With Eastern Mennonite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Greensboro, N.C. (3/29/08) -- Guilford College and Eastern Mennonite University split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference double-header for the fourth straight season Saturday afternoon at the Quakers' Haworth Field.

Samantha Golley's two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored the winning run in Guilford's 4-3 opening-game win. The Quakers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Kelly Guarnieri's sacrifice fly and Kelly Hale's two-run home run. The homer, Hale's sixth of the season, tied her own school record for homers in a season and matched Guilford's career record of 12, set by Ashley Cooke '05. The Royals rallied and tied the game in the sixth on Anna Coleman's second RBI-single of the game. DeNina Eldridge pitched a complete game for the Quakers and earned her team-leading fifth win of the season.

In the nightcap, Mandee Madden's RBI double in the eighth completed Eastern Mennonite's wild 8-7 win. The Royals built a 6-1 lead, thanks in part to Madden's two-run triple in the fourth, but Guilford rallied with six runs in the home sixth to take a 7-6 lead. The first six Guilford batters reached base in the inning and Golley tied the game with a two-out, RBI groundout. The Royals tied the game in the top of the seventh on Jessica Sullivan's RBI single.

The Quakers visit Averett University Sunday in a nonleague twinbill. Eastern Mennonite plays at league-rival Lynchburg College.
