Softball Splits Nonconference Doubleheader With Meredith

Raleigh, N.C. (3/21/08) -- Host Meredith College scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 4-3 win in the second game of a nonconference softball doubleheader with Guilford College. The Quakers won the opening game, 12-1, in five innings.

In the opener, the Quakers' Taryn Pulvermuller scattered five hits in her first win of the year. Guilford's Amber Stapler hit a two-run single in the third inning, when the Quakers sent 12 batters to the plate. Kelly Hale hit an RBI double in the fourth for Guilford. The nonconference win ended Guilford's 7-game losing skid.

Amber Littesy's leadoff homer in the first inning accounted for Meredith's scoring.

In the second game, McKenzie Caskey scored the winning run from second base on a Guilford error on a ball hit by Littesy. Arielle Stout had RBI doubles in the third and fifth innings for the Avenging Angels. Her fifth inning hit tied the game at 3-3.

Guilford's Kelly Guarnieri had an RBI double in the third inning.
