Box Score

Greensboro, N.C. (4/12/07) -- Emma Shew's RBI single scored Zenovia Hogue in the bottom of the eighth inning and gave Guilford a 6-5 comeback win over visiting Meredith and a sweep of the Angels in Thursday's nonconference doubleheader. Micki Boulineau's RBI single in the fourth inning of the opener broke a 2-2 tie and sent the Quakers on to a 5-2 win.

Guilford (10-26) has won five of its last six games and improved on last year's win total of nine victories. The Angels conclude the regular season with a 6-32 record.

Guilford freshman DeNina Eldridge struck out a school-record 13 batters in the nightcap. She also walked five and had three wild pitches, which enabled the Angels to battle back from a 4-1 deficit and tie the game in the fifth. Kamika Henderson and Antonietta Tricarico drew one-out walks. Liz Prochaska scored Henderson with a single up the middle. Adrienne Bryant followed one out later with a two-run single that tied the game at 4-4.

Neither team scored until Meredith took advantage of two errors in the top of the eighth inning and scored the go-ahead run on a squeeze bunt by Stephanie Wilson. Beth Sprinkle, who reached on an Eldridge error earlier in the inning, took third on Wilson's bunt. She was thrown out at the plate for the third out of the inning on Henderson?s grounder to third.

In the bottom of the eighth, Guilford logged four straight singles in their winning rally. Hogue's single to left scored Charissa Duncan from third to tie the game. After Sara Vaisvilas singled, Shew singled up the middle to score Eldridge with the winning run.

Shew and Vaisvilas both went 2-4 in the bottom two spots in Guilford's batting order. Kelly Hale added a pair of RBI doubles. Four Angels banged out two hits, including Prochaska, who added two runs batted in. She also suffered the loss on the mound.

Guilford's Taryn Pulvermuller won her third decision in as many games with a six-hit complete game in the opener. She helped her cause with a fourth-inning single and scored the Quakers' fourth run on Kelly Guarnieri's RBI double with two outs in the frame. Hale scored Guarnieri with a single up the middle for her second hit of the game. Boulineau also had two hits, matching her career high.

Lindsey Hastings went 2-2 for Meredith and scored both Angels' runs. Jasmine Cooper also had two hits.

Guilford returns to action April 14 against Emory & Henry in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader.
