Guilford Upsets #25 Greensboro, 4-3

Greensboro, N.C. (10/10/07) -- Guilford College junior Scott Meguid scored twice in the last 10 minutes to lift the host Quakers past 25th-ranked Greensboro College Wednesday afternoon at Haworth Field. Meguid's header off a Joe Rigert feed with 5:22 remaining broke a 3-3 tie and lifted Guilford (5-8-1) to its first triumph over the Pride (9-2-2) since 1991.

The Quakers' win ended Greensboro's nine-match winning streak in the season series between the crosstown rivals and marked their first victory over a nationally ranked team since 2001.

Meguid set up junior Bryce Hunsucker's goal early in the second half that gave the Quakers a short-lived 2-1 lead. Greensboro sophomore Jay Wyatt tied the game less three minutes later with his second goal of the match and the Pride's Eric Hatchett gave the guests a 3-2 edge in the 68th minute.

Guilford trailed by a goal until Meguid scored off a free kick with 9:34 remaining and tied the match at 3-3.

Freshman goalie Beau Arceneaux made three saves in relief of Patrick Childs (5 saves) in the second half to secure the win in goal. Greensboro junior netminder Ryan Symonds made four stops in his first start of the season.

Greensboro held a 25-11 edge in shots, including 18-1 in the first half. Freshman midfielder Mark Mazzone converted the Quakers' lone shot with 56 second left in the first half to draw Guilford even at halftime.
