Women's Soccer Defeats Lynchburg, 1-0, to Snap 20-Match Losing Streak

Greensboro, N.C. (9-30-06) -- Guilford's women's soccer team recorded its first win over Lynchburg since 1990 Friday with a 1-0 home triumph. The Quakers improved to 7-3 with their seventh win in eight matches and 5-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). The Hornets dropped to 6-3-1 (3-2 ODAC).

 

Senior Rachel Gwin scored an off-balanced goal from 12 yards out off a Jennah Carter assist early in the second half to account for the scoring. Guilford senior Veronica Zych made three saves in goal for her second shutout of the season.

Lynchburg outshot the Quakers, 9-5. The Hornets Ashley-Taylor Fuller made two saves in goal.

The win ended Lynchburg's 20-match winning streak over the Quakers that dated to 1990. The Hornets ended Guilford's season last season with a 4-0 victory in the ODAC Tournament final.

The Quakers visit Division I Wofford Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. then continue on the road Wednesday, (10/4) traveling to ODAC frontrunner and undefeated #21 Washington and Lee.
