Guilford Falls to Virginia Wesleyan, 2-0, in ODAC Women's Soccer Final

Box Score

Greensboro, N.C. (11/4/06) -- Virginia Wesleyan came out swinging in the 2006 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Soccer Final Saturday and rode an early goal to a 2-0 victory over Guilford. The Marlins, who in victory earned the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III playoffs, pushed their record to 16-3-2 while Guilford ends its season with a 13-6-3 mark.

The Marlins pushed forward from the opening kick and broke through 4:33 into the match when a Missy Kuhns free kick from the edge of the penalty area found Jackie Ochs-Gregory, who headed the ball under the crossbar.

The Quakers got their bearings after the initial onslaught and increased their possession of the ball, though their chances were somewhat limited by the Marlins' defending. Perhaps Guilford's best chance at equalizing the score came early in the second half when Micki Boulineau's 40-yard free kick sailed inches over the crossbar.

Less than two minutes later, though, Virginia Wesleyan freshman Jen Colwell tapped in the rebound of Christina Smith's hard shot to make the score 2-0 and the Marlins used their tight defense to preserve that margin to the final whistle.
