Greensboro Downs Guilford, 2-0, in Men's Soccer

Greensboro, N.C (10/9/06) -- Greensboro College defeated cross-town rival Guilford College, 2-0, in a men's soccer match at Pride Field Monday.

The home team scored in the fifth minute when freshman Cameron Allison tallied his first goal of the year. Allison fired home a rebound that caromed off the crossbar from a previous shot attempt by Ben Norman. The score remained 1-0 at the break.

The Pride (5-6-1) recorded the match's final score in the 59th minute. Andrew Clark stole the ball near midfield and delivered a pass to Robert Fricke, who then beat Guilford (3-7-1) keeper Zane Campbell (4 saves) in a one-on-one situation for his team-leading eighth goal of the year.

Greensboro out shot Guilford, 15-9. Kurt Gardiner had five saves for the home team. The Pride had 10 corners to four for the Quakers.

Greensboro College now leads the all-time series in men's soccer versus Guilford, 10-1.

The Quakers (3-7-1) return to action Oct. 11 at Randolph-Macon.
