Carter's Double Leads Guilford Past Randolph-Macon Women's Soccer 3-1

Ashland, Va. (10/8/06) -- Guilford's Jennah Carter scored two of the Quakers three first-half goals as Guilford downed ODAC rival Randolph-Macon College 3-1 Sunday afternoon in women's soccer action.

With the win, Guilford improves to 8-4-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the ODAC. Randolph-Macon drops to 3-8-0 overall and 3-4-0 in league play.

Carter, who entered the match as the second leading goal scorer in the ODAC, picked up her first strike of the match just under 23 minutes into the first-half when she headed home a ball that deflected off a pair of Randolph-Macon defenders in front of the net.

Micki Boulineau connected on a free-kick from 20-yards away just 3:37 after Carter's goal giving the Quakers a 2-0 lead.

Carter scored her second goal of the match when Jada Daniel sent a crossing pass across the box which Carter collected and beat R-MC keeper Heather Bleile from six-yards away, extending the Guilford lead to 3-0 at the intermission.

The score remained that way until the 57th minute when the Yellow Jackets cut the Guilford lead to 3-1 when Kendall Kirtley's crossing pass was headed home by Lacy Phelps.

Veronica Zych made four saves in net for Guilford , while Bleile and Mary Jocelyn split time in net for Randolph-Macon, combining for six saves.

Guilford held a 21-9 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.

R-MC will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Lynchburg College at 4:00 p.m. Guilford will take on in-state rival Meredith College at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday in Greensboro, N.C.
