(10/19/06) -- Bryce Hunsucker scored his first two goals of the season in visiting Guilford's 4-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer win at Roanoke College Wednesday afternoon. The Quakers' first league victory of the year snapped a five-match losing skid and improved their overall record to 4-10-1 (1-6 ODAC). The Maroons, who entered the match one point behind Washington and Lee for first place in the ODAC standings, slips to 6-7-1 overall (5-2 ODAC).
The Quakers struck first as Joe Rigert converted a Tim Berke feed in the 27th minute. Rigert's tally ended his 11-match scoreless streak.
Hunsucker, a sophomore midfielder, gave the Quakers a 2-0 halftime edge with a goal set up by sophomore Emmanuel Ukattah.
Scott Meguid put home his second goal in as many days for a 3-0 Guilford lead 11 minutes into the second half. Meguid, a sophomore forward, leads the Quakers with nine goals this season. Hunsucker's unassisted tally in the 72nd minute concluded the Quakers' scoring.
Roanoke's Michael Rouhana spoiled the Quakers' shutout with a goal with 8:22 remaining. Guilford goalie Zane Campbell made five saves in the match, while his counterpart, Austin Rose, made none.
Roanoke outshot Guilford, 12-7, and had nine corner kicks to the Quakers' five. The physical match featured nine yellow cards and 33 fouls.
Guilford hosts Lynchburg Saturday (10/21) at 3:00 in the Quakers' Senior Day contest before closing out the regular-season schedule against visiting Emory & Henry Oct. 24 at 4:00 p.m.
