Box Score Greensboro, N.C. (10/11/06) -- Maggie Hart scored twice, including an insurance tally with 37 seconds left, to help visiting Meredith to a 4-2 soccer win at Guilford Wednesday. The Angels' (11-2-1) sixth straight win marked their first over the Quakers (8-5-1) in five all-time meetings.
Guilford took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Jada Daniel midway through the first half, but Hart got the Angels on the board when she knocked in the rebound of Margot Childs' long free kick off the crossbar with 1:45 before halftime.
Meredith caught Guilford's defense off guard twice in a 50-second span early in the second half and opened a 3-1 lead. Jerica Moses took a long crossing pass from Anna Buryk and slotted it past Guilford goalie Veronica Zych from close range at 53:20. Buryk put a hard shot on goal that Zych knocked down, but could not control and Meredith's Nicole Boucher was there to put it home and give the Angels a two-goal edge.
The Quakers got back to within a goal just over a minute later when Daniel was taken down the box and Guilford was awarded a penalty kick. Micki Boulineau converted the kick, which made it a 3-2 game.
Guilford's intensity picked up as the game wore on and the Quakers had a number of good scoring chances, but could not get the ball on goal. Meredith's Kristy Knight also had a good look at the goal, but her shot late in the match sailed wide. Knight atoned for the miss a couple minutes later with a nice pass to a streaking Hart on a quick give and go that iced the Angels' victory.
Meredith outshot the Quakers, 13-11, and got five saves in goal by Stephanie Wells. Zych made three saves for the Quakers.
Guilford is ranked fifth in this week's NSCAA/adidas South Region Rankings and returns to action Saturday against visiting Roanoke at 3:00 p.m.
