Ridout's Double Leads Randolph-Macon Past Guilford 4-3

ASHLAND, Va. (10/11/06) -- Senior forward Greg Ridout scored his first two goals of the season Wednesday afternoon to help Randolph-Macon College top Guilford College 4-3 in men's soccer action.

With the win, Randolph-Macon improves to 4-9-0 overall and 2-4-0 in league play. GC drops to 3-8-1 on the season and 0-4-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).

After a Donald Parrott goal in the 10th minute of play gave the Yellow Jackets the lead 1-0, Scott Shoemaker connected with a streaking Ridout who used his left foot to one-time a crossing pass past Guilford keeper Zane Campbell to double the Randolph-Macon advantage.

The score remained that way until the start of the second-half when the Quakers cut the lead to 2-1 on a Mike McCaffery goal just 15 seconds into the half and then tied the score just 20 seconds later on a scoring strike from Ryan Huber.

Ridout helped the Yellow Jackets regain the advantage in the 49th minute of play when he took a head pass from Kevan Quinn just inside the box and rifled a shot past Campbell to give Randolph-Macon a 3-2 lead.

At the 85:47 mark, Pete Hanley sent a lead pass to Chris Williams, which Williams collected and scored on an unopposed breakaway to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.

McCaffery struck again for Guilford just 47 seconds after Williams' goal to cut the Randolph-Macon lead to one at 4-3.

Colin Royster played all 90 minutes in net for Randolph-Macon, making two saves in the win while Campbell made three saves in a losing effort.

Guilford held a 12-11 advantage in shots and 5-3 in corner kicks.

Randolph-Macon will return to action on Saturday when it hits the road for a 2:00 ODAC match at Emory and Henry. Guilfordwill be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 p.m. league match up.
