Rocky Mount, NC (9/4/05) -- North Carolina Wesleyan College completed an impressive opening weekend with a 3-0 blanking of Guilford College in Sunday afternoon men's soccer action at Scalf Field. The win was the Bishops' second in as many days and secured the 2005 Fall Classic championship trophy.

Wesleyan got on the board early on Jabbie's first goal just seven minutes into the game. Philipp Lyding sent a pass into the box to Salvador Benitez, Jr., who crossed the ball to Jabbie for a header. Both Lyding and Benitez, Jr. were credited with assists.

The Bishops would take the 1-0 lead late into the game and did not record their second goal until Mamadou Danso connected on his first goal of the season at 80:59. Bobby Moges and Marcellus Jernigan each picked up their first assists of '05.

Wesleyan's final goal came with just 32 seconds remaining. Jon Dyer and Benitez, Jr. sent the ball into the box where Jabbie tapped home his second goal of the game and gave Wesleyan the 3-0 final.

Bishop goalie Jordan Dumford recorded his second shutout in as many games, notching two saves on the day. Quaker goalie Zane Campbell tallied five saves, as North Carolina Wesleyan outshot Guilford 13-8.

In the Quakers' first game of the weekend, Methodist jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the 13th minute by Andy White. White's first goal of 2005 gave the Monarchs a 1-0 lead at the break.

Guilford answered back in the second half and took the lead on two goals by Andres Miranda. Miranda's first goal off of a Neil Meguid feed knotted the game at 1-1 in the 63rd minute. Miranda struck again 11 minutes later, beating Monarch goalie Jeremy Belnap one-on-one.

Just when it looked as though the Quakers would take the 2-1 win, White again scored for Methodist with just 40 seconds remaining in the contest. His equalizer would lead to the eventual 2-2 final as neither squad could scratch a goal in overtime.

The Quakers drop to 1-1-1 on the young season.  Guilford will be back in action on Saturday (9/10) as they travel to take on Warren Wilson in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
