Bridgewater Takes 5-0 Men's Soccer Win at Guilford

Box Score

Greensboro, NC (10/18/05) -- Chris Thomas and John Costello each tallied twice in visiting Bridgewater's easy 5-0 men's soccer win at Guilford Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 9-8 overall (4-4 ODAC) with their fifth win in seven matches.

Guilford drops to 5-7-3 (1-6 ODAC) with its fifth setback in six outings. The loss also jeopardizes the Quakers' chances of earning one of eight spots in the ODAC Tournament. Guilford must win its remaining matches with Lynchburg and Emory & Henry and hope Lynchburg loses the rest of its matches to secure the eighth and final spot in the tournament.

Thomas connected on both of his goals in the first half, sandwiched around a Costello penalty kick goal in the 24th minute. Mitch Hammersley made two saves in goal for the Eagles before giving way to Zane Lineberry in the 73rd minute.

Guilford goalie Matt McCall, one of four seniors making their final home appearance Tuesday, made a career-high six saves in the first half. Zane Campbell entered the match at halftime and recorded seven stops.

The Quakers visit Lynchburg Saturday (10/22) at 2:00 p.m. Bridgewater plays at King Saturday in a nonleague match.
