Guilford Women Win Sixth Straight In Soccer, Unbeaten Streak At 10

Box Score

SWEET BRIAR, VA (10/20/04) -- Guilford's women's soccer team scored twice in the last 10 minutes to claim a 2-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win at Sweet Briar Wednesday. The win extended the Quakers' winning streak to a school-record six matches, one better than the previous mark set in 1997. Guilford has not lost in a school-record 10 matches.

Freshman Morgan Jones scored her first college goal in the 82nd minute when she collected a rebound off a shot by Jennah Carter and put it past Vixens' keeper Abby Brown. Carter set up the insurance goal less than five minutes later when her pass led to Heather Ruggiero's fourth goal of the season.

The Quakers outshot their hosts, 24-7. Veronica Zych and Danielle Brisotti combined on the shutout in goal for Guilford. Brown kept the Vixens in the match with 13 saves.

Guilford returns to action Friday against league-rival Randolph-Macon Woman's College at 4:00 p.m.
