Hayes ’14 & Ratner ’13 Named Guilford Honorees in ODAC Hall of Fame’s Second Class

Tandem of multi-time All-Americans join ranks of conference’s all-time greats

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College Athletic greats Cynthia Hayes Luther '14, from softball, and Noah Ratner '13, from the men's golf program, were immortalized in the lore of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) as inductees in the second class of the ODAC Hall of Fame as announced by the conference on Wednesday morning.

"The announcement of our second Hall of Fame class is another chance to celebrate the people who have helped make the ODAC what it is today," explained ODAC Commissioner Brad Bankston in the conference release. "Each honoree has their own story, but they all made a lasting impact on our conference and helped set the standard for those who came after them. We're proud to recognize what they accomplished and excited to celebrate the lasting mark they've made on the ODAC."

The most dominant offensive threat that not only Guilford College softball, but arguably the ODAC as a whole has ever featured, Cynthia Hayes Luther '14 is the lone multi-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-American in Guilford program history. Hayes owned the program record in virtually every major offensive category at both the career and single-season levels at the end of her tenure with the Quakers, spanning from 2011-14, and remains the ODAC record-holder for single-season batting average (.598 in 2013) and doubles (23 in 2014), as well as career batting average (.467). The most-decorated player in the history of ODAC men's golf to date, Noah Ratner '13 carried the torch of the league's most-successful program on the greens, fairways, and tees nationwide from 2009-13 with the Quakers earning a Division-III Championship berth each year of his career including a trio of auto-bids as ODAC Champions. The 2012 recipient of the Golf Coaches' Association of America (GCAA) Division-III Nicklaus Award as the top player in NCAA Division-III, he is Guilford's only three-time PING/GCAA First Team All-American and the first player in league history to take home a trio of ODAC Player of the Year honors before getting matched by James Mishoe '21 in addition to his 2013 ODAC Individual title. The inaugural class included representation from 13 schools plus three individuals from the conference at-large. The second class includes inductees from Shenandoah University for the first time and features 36 honorees from 14 schools. That includes three each from the ODAC's eight charter members – Bridgewater College, Eastern Mennonite University, Emory & Henry University (then College during its ODAC era), Hampden-Sydney College, University of Lynchburg, Randolph-Macon College, Roanoke College, and Washington and Lee University – and two apiece from Batten University, Guilford College, Hollins University, Randolph College, Shenandoah, and Sweet Briar College, each of which joined the conference at various points throughout the league's 50-year history.

Inductees must have played, coached, or contributed to their institution during their time as members of the ODAC. Further information about the ODAC Hall of Fame can be found in the conference release. (LINK)
