GREENSBORO, N.C. – Skyler Dark (Pleasant Garden, N.C.) of the Guilford College baseball team swept All-Region VI Second Team distinction, getting recognized by both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings and D3baseball.com, as announced by the organizations on Tuesday.
Putting together his third-consecutive all-conference-worthy season in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), Dark notably fell to the All-ODAC Third Team for the first time out of his three in Greensboro, but he surpasses that selection at the regional level with the first regional distinction of his career. Moving from the role of table-setter to run-producer on an everyday basis for the first time in his career, Dark posted his best season yet with career-high marks virtually across the board. He paced the Quakers in batting average and on-base percentage as credentials to go with his .417/.489/.647 triple-slash line that resulted in a team-leading 1.136 OPS that ranked fifth in the ODAC. As of the end of conference tournament play, Dark was the regional leader in total triples, with seven, while also ranking ninth in batting average. Dark also finished the regular season as the ODAC hits leader, finishing with 65, among them 16 doubles, a total that sat tied for 32
nd in Division-III and tied for sixth in the region, plus his region-high seven triples among his knocks contributing to 101 total bases, a figure that ranked tied for 37
th in the country and seventh in the region. Starting all-39 games for Guilford, the junior accrued a team-high 156 at-bats and adopted a more-disciplined approach that aided in his career-year. Drawing more walks, 21, than strikeouts, 17, for the first time out of his three seasons, Dark scored a team-leading 40 runs, pacing the Quakers in that category for the second-straight spring while also driving in a career-high 30 RBIs. On the basepaths, Dark finished 5-6 on steal attempts while also cutting down a team-high five opponents with outfield assists and posting a .941 fielding percentage defensively for GC.
Dark keeps the Quakers five-season streak with at least one D3baseball.com All-Region honoree while he extends a four-year streak of All-Region honorees from the ABCA/Rawlings. The last Guilford baseball player to make the regional Second Team or better was Isaiah Hairston '23, MISM '24 when he was a consensus All-Region First Team pick in 2024.
