ASHLAND, Va. – The Guilford College baseball team (19-20, 6-14 ODAC) finished their 2026 season taking an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) defeat, 5-2 to Randolph-Macon College (23-12, 13-7 ODAC) at Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park on Sunday afternoon.
Jonathan Sendziak (McLeansville, N.C.) turned in one of his better starts of the season, tossing 5.1 innings allowing three runs, all earned, on just four hits albeit with three walks and two HBP. He fanned one but ended up on the hook to fall to 1-6 at the end of his first season as a Quaker.
William Wian threw 4.0 innings for the hosting Yellow Jackets, but did not qualify for the win after allowing two runs, both earned on three hits and three walks, fanning five in the no decision. Connor McAuley threw the following 3.0 frames allowing just a single hit against four Ks to improve to 2-0 before Cory Fischer delivered 2.0 flawless frames to complete his second save.
GC managed just four hits, one apiece by
Skyler Dark (Pleasant Garden, N.C.),
Gavin Fleming (Gibsonville, N.C.),
Aidan McCandless (Burlington, N.C.), and
Ryne Rodrigues (Summerfield, N.C.). Dark's was the only one for extra-bases, a double, with he and Rodrigues scoring the two Quaker runs. Fleming drove in one run as did
Grayson Hobson (Quinton, Va.) as one-of-three men to take a walk for Guilford, alongside
Rylan Smith (Archdale, N.C.) and
Ethan George (Burlington, N.C.).
R-MC did not exactly pile up the hits either with Justin Lanouette being the only man with multiple hits while James Baffone, Logan Duff, Carter Schmitt, and Zach Wernoski all had one each. Lanouette and Duff hit doubles with the former also stealing a bag and driving in a run. Schmitt scored once and drove in one run with Duff also tallying an RBI.
Like Saturday, the Yellow Jackets responded to a scoreless top half with a multi-run bottom of the first. Jack Bowles got hit by a pitch, Zach Wernoski singled and the lead man advanced on a passed ball. Carter Schmitt drove in the first run with a hit, Wernoski later crossed the plate on a fielder's choice and it was an early edge for the hosts. Sendziak settled for a bit after that, holding the score at 2-0 by throwing flawless second and third innings before the offense got going in the fourth.
Rodrigues opened things by beating an infield hit followed by Dark shooting right-center for a double and Smith taking ball four. Fleming followed with a fielders choice that erased Smith in the middle and scored a run, before the second out then consecutive walks to George and Hobson, leveling things at two, although the bases would be left loaded.
R-MC took the lead for good in the sixth with a Schmitt walk and Duff run-scoring double in the sixth then added a couple more on a Lanouette double that plated two through the play's proceedings in the fifth, bringing the final score to 5-2.
This concludes the 2026 season for the Quakers baseball program.
